Welcome.
What I love about painting is the alchemy that can be achieved: the coming together of inspiration and vision which is then tranmutted through form, tone, line, colour and atmosphere to create something beautiful and enduring.
Since the launch of this blog in June 2008 I have been posting images of my Art Works here on a near daily basis. The Works featured on this blog comprise mostly of gestural plein air (made in the open air) landscape paintings and small intimate Still Life studies and Interiors created in a direct observational manner.
Each painting will be clearly marked below as regards availability and you can contact me directly to purchase at info@richardhearns.com
Fervent use of notebooks and constant sketching during my extensive travels abroad proved a great foundation.
It was from these notebooks and sketches that my Art naturally developed into more finished pieces.
Coming from a largely self taught background my Work developed from drawings into a quite expressionistic and gestural style using mixed media and what ever came to hand.
With my more recent works I have honed in on the usage of medias in an endeavour to really develop my own techniques in Oil. I tend to create most of these pieces, like the work that has gone before, in a Alla Prima (one sitting) manner. Working this way for me is the most real and spontaneous manner in which I can create an Art Work.
Painting for me is one of the greatest and most rewarding challenges and gifts in my life. I really can not remember a time when Art and image making was not an integral part of who I am.
The development of these sketches in oil, alongside my larger finished Work is consistently introducing an extra level of energy to my Art practice. This fresh approach allows me to really develop with each painting I create and explore and experiment freely with different aspects of the Fine Art process.
You can have the 'paintings' sent directly to your inbox every time a new one is posted and keep up to date with my progress by entering your email address in the box above. For more information on my Work please visit my website richardhearns.com
